BEGINNING QUILT CLASS

Six week Beginning Quilt Class
 Thursday, April 12, at 9:00AM - 3:00PM
 Sharp United Methodist Church (Young Harris).

 

Would you like to learn how to quilt? 
Have you started quilting but would like to have some guidance and support as you learn more? 

 Then mark your calendars for the six week Beginning Quilt Class starting Thursday, April 12, at 9:00 at Sharp United Methodist Church (Young Harris). 

In this class taught by guild members Sally Barker, Margaret Shattles and Nancy Donegan, you will learn everything from fabric selection and using the basic tools of quilting to making blocks and creating a sampler quilt.

The class will meet from 9:00 to 3:00 on the following Thursdays:

April 12, 19, 26 and May 3, 17 and 24.

Cost for the class is $20, plus the cost of the book It’s “El”ementary by Eleanor Burns.

NEW COMFORT QUILT

Comfort Quilt Block Comfort Quilt Block Construction

1. Please use fabrics in happy pastels, no dark colors

2. Cut one, 3 1/2" square for block center in some kind of green fabric

3. Cut two, 2 1/4" X 3 1/2" strips

4. Cut two, 2 1/4" X 7" strips

5. *Cut four, 2 1/4" X 3 3/4" strips

6. *Cut four, 2 1/4" X 5 1/2" strips

5. Sew #3 strips to opposite sides of the 3 1/2" square and press away from the center

6. Sew #4 strips to opposite sides of the 3 1/2" square and press away from the center IMPORTANT: do not go any further until you square block to 6 ˝".

7. Pair 2 strips from #5 and sew together end to end. Repeat for the other two strips. Press the seams open. Sew on pieced strip to the "growing" block, repeat for the opposite side. Press away from the center

8. Repeat step #9 using the #6 strips. Press away from the center and square to 9 ˝"

*For steps 5 and 6 you will need a total of eight different fabrics, four for step 5 and four for step 6. This makes the outside strips of the block very scrappy.

MMQG MONTHLY FAT QUARTER DRAWING

 
Members who wish to participate will bring a fat quarter (or more) to the meeting.  You may enter as many times as you wish - one entry per fat quarter.  At the end of the meeting we will draw one name and that person will win all the fat quarters, though this may change later depending on how much participation we have.  The drawing is for members only and you must be present to win.  Fat quarters should be at least 18” x 22” and must be clean and in good condition.  Our monthly themes for the remainder of this year will be:
  • February – Warm & Fuzzy Flannel (any color or print)
     
  • March – Background Fabrics (cream, beige, white, tone-on-tone)
     
  • April – Pretty Plaid or Homespun
     
  • May –  Fabric that reminds you of your mother
     
    •
  • June – Batik Brights
     
  • July –  Fabric that makes you think of vacation
     
  • August –  Dots, Checks or Stripes
     
  • September –  Favorite team colors
     
  • October – Batik Darks
     
  • November –  Fabric that sparkles
     
  • December – Winter Colors

MMQG LIBRARY

MISTY MOUNTAIN QUILTERS’ GUILD LIBRARY POLICIES

Books will be organized by subject title and separated into general subject areas.

  1. Only Guild members may check out items from the library.

  2. Library items may be checked out for one month, from one general meeting to the next.

  3. Items may be renewed at the monthly meeting, unless another member has his/her name on a waiting list.

  4. A monthly fine of $2 per overdue book, pattern, video or magazine will be assessed, if items are not returned on time.

  5. If a member loses or damages a library item, the member must replace it immediately with the same item or one of equal value.

Remember: some of these books are now out of print. Also, some of our items are autographed: i.e. Audrey Hiers and Eleanor Burns.

Tuesday's Quilting Group

"Tuesday Strippers" quilting group is open to all interested quilters. It meets each Tuesday, 9:30 am at the Mountain Presbyterian Church in Blairsville, GA. Bring your own project to work on. Learn and share with others.

The Presbyterian Church is just east of the Catholic Church on Highway 515 E, #3831.

The Applique Bee

The Applique Bee will not be meeting through the winter.

The first meeting next year is April 4, 2012 at the Presbyterian Church from 9:30AM-2:00PM. Everybody interested in Hand Applique is invited to attend and bring your own project if you do not wish to participate in the project being presented. Come and share applique knowledge and experiences.

You will receive an email in March about the applique projects for 2012. We are progressing towards needle turn applique as well as both traditional and new techniques.
