All Saints Lutheran Church
4 miles east of Blairsville on Hwy 76 East

Paper Foundation Star Class
Taught by
Delores Knight

Supply List:
Sewing machine
Neutral thread (beige or gray)
An "add a quarter" 6" ruler (Delores will have them
at class. They are $5.00 to buy or you can       borrow Delores' ruler.)
A small cutting mat (11" X 17" is good)
Rotary cutter
Straight pins (bring a few flower head pins also)
4 or 5 fat quarters. One should be a neutral fabric for the background. Delores recommends picking a floral or other print first, then choosing 3 or 4 tone-on-tone, etc. to go with the larger print.

Connie Tackett is going to bring her printer to class to print out the foundation papers for the star, so plan on spending approx $1.00 to cover the paper cost. Each student will need 8 copies of the star pattern.

Last but not least; bring lunch & a Smile (Delores will bring desert)

Any questions?  Call Delores at 706-781-2648 or Email at

           August 11th Sewcial
Crazy Patch Wreath
Taught by Beverly Atkins

Supply List of Materials:
16-inch square muslin
16-inch square of one of your fabrics (for back)
Scraps of fabrics (can be seasonal, fancy fabrics, shades of one color, etc.)
2 yards of rattail cord (This cord is used to cover the seam middle opening of the wreath)  You could use lace, rick rack, or other items like this
1 yard of 1-inch-wide ruffled lace (this is for the outer edge of the wreath)
1/4 yard of green (or color that suits your design) moire fabric for bow (can use a satin ribbon if you wish)
Polyester fiberfill
Sewing machine and all the usual sewing supplies

The following items are optional according to how much you want to decorate:
Scraps of laces and ribbons, decorative buttons, metal charms, metallic threads, scraps of embroidery floss, beads, beading needle and beading thread.
You can do the embroidery with the decorative stitches on your machine if you wish or you can opt to leave your wreath simple.

Bev will have plastic template patterns, tracing paper, and pencils.

It might help to look at some crazy quilt patterns to become familiar with how they sew from one piece of fabric to the next.  There will be several samples of possible ways to arrange the fabric.  It can be done in a very simple design or a more complex one.  It's really fun once you get
started!

Project Hugs & Kisses

"A big thank you from our committee to you ladies.  You have been wonderful to work with and I have enjoyed getting to know some of you and working alongside of you. There are so many hands involved - too numerous to list as it would take the whole page. I am very proud to be a member of such a caring group.

I will have batting, kits, extra fabrics and backing fabrics at the sewcials, meetings and Tuesday Bee at Mountain Presbyterian church. There we can sandwich quilts very easily. I would like to simplify your work and will do all I can to be available for you. Hope to see you there.  If you have extra fabrics we can use it!"

Again I say THANK YOU.

MMQG Volunteer Opportunity
Exhibit for North Georgia Mountain Fair

For several years the Misty Mountain Quilt Guild has had an exhibit at the North Georgia Mountain Fair.  These are 2 fair times during the year - one in July and another in October.  Diane Remsen has coordinated these exhibits for at least 3 years now.  She will continue doing this for the July fair but we need someone to take on this responsibility, beginning with the November fair.  It can be a single person or co-chairs for this endeavor.  You can contact Diane if you want to talk to her further about it before volunteering.  Then ---- if you will volunteer, contact our President, Sally Barker.

Murphy, NC MMQG Quilters

This quilt group is an informal group that meets every Thursday  at the United Methodist Church in the basement of the adjoining brick building. They meet at 10:00 a.m. and bring something to work on or chat or look through an extensive library of quilt books and other crafts. They make quilts for sick children and mentor Sammie Simpson (of Olympic quilt fame), who has also published in many magazines and occasionally teaches a class. She also teaches at John Campbell Folk School.  Everyone is welcome to come.  Call Linda Simms for further information.
